What you will do
Step inside a 16th century Cotswold thatched cottage to learn to bake English scones. See how the owners of the cottage have lovingly restored the old farm labourer’s home and hear stories of the cottage’s ancestry. Whist enjoying making the scones using vintage cooking utensils in the cottage kitchen, there is also chance to sample some local English gin, while waiting for the scones to bake in the oven. While the scones are cooling, enjoy a short guided walking tour around the Cotswold ironstone village of Hanwell, visiting a 13th century church and a castle where King James l stayed not once but twice, followed by your cream tea with homemade jam and clotted cream back at the cottage. If you don't have a car to visit, don't worry as there is a train station nearby. The host can can come and collect you.
What's included
Scones, homemade jam and lots of clotted cream, English Breakfast tea and a sample of a local Cotswold gin. A walking tour of the village is almost included and your take home recipe card.
What I might need
Dress for the weather! Bring a waterproof coat if its cold and wet, or sunscreen if its hot and sunny, as we will be taking a short walk around the historic village.
About the host
Your guide has led walks, tours and experiences of the Cotswolds to visitors for almost years. They have been lovingly restoring their 16th century Cotswold thatch cottage using traditional methods and researching who's lived in the cottage going back to 1841. They are a keen baker, baking cakes and bread -recreating the local recipes in their cottage kitchen - which is warming and welcoming to everyone who comes and visits.Cancellation policy

Very wonderful experience. It gave us a great exposure to the traditions & more specifically the tradition of the english scones. The host was very friendly and explained everything about the area, including the background history of the house and the delicious scones. I highly recommend you make a visit, it will be a memorable experience.

Charming cottage..Charming hosts..We went for the “Unmissable England” scone making experience ..very enjoyable and delicious cream tea..our host took us on a history tour of the nearby Church and Castle which was fascinating and to top it off all the snowdrops were out..Highly recommended.
