South Downs

South Downs Welcomes You

The South Downs is a National Park in the south of England covering much of the counties of Sussex and Hampshire.

With Winchester in the west, Eastbourne in the East and London only an hour away, the South Downs covers an area of over 600 square miles. Characterised by rolling chalk downland, ancient woodland and picture-perfect villages containing the secrets of thousands of years of settlement from prehistory to Caesar’s conquering forces. In contrast, take in the seaside town of Brighton, with its vibrant beach life and quirky lanes, leading on to the iconic white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters. The South Downs has captivated some of Britain’s greatest literary and artistic figures, from Jane Austen, to Rudyard Kipling to the Bloomsbury Group and Virginia Woolf.
