Experience Overview

On this fun experience, you will get familiar with the potters wheel and learn what it is like to have a go at throwing and shaping clay. Suitable for the complete beginner (ages 7+).

What you will do

On arrival at our Studio, you’ll be warmly welcomed as you join the rest of your small group. The experience begins with a full demonstration of the pot throwing process, given by one of our expert potters. You will learn the 5 basic steps in making a pot, from centering, opening out and pulling up the walls of your pots, using specialist tools. Then its your turn to get hands-on and have fun shaping clay on your own potter’s wheel! An experienced tutor will talk you through the steps again and be on hand throughout offering practical tips and guidance as needed. Pottery takes practice so as a beginner, your pots tend to be super wobbly and often collapse but it’s all part of the fun and the normal learning curve of a potter. At the end of the class, you can chose your favourite pot(s) to take away. Let them dry naturally at home and paint them if you wish!

What's included

Your own potter’s wheel, tools & apron. Unlimited supply of clay. Full demonstration and expert tuition on hand throughout. Your best pot to take home (pots will be boxed up for you).

What I might need

Please wear practical clothes & footwear that you don't mind getting a little messy (the clay doesn’t stain and will wash out easily). Feel free to bring your apron or they can be hired on the day.

Nestled in the tranquil North Cotswolds, Honeybourne Pottery is run by potter’s Alan & Annabel Cusack. The calm space of their beautiful countryside studio, creates a relaxing escape for individuals, couples & groups to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of working with clay.
