What you will do

Shinrin Yoku is the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing. We don’t change into swimsuits to discover the benefits of this ancient activity. Forest Bathing involves taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the trees which can lift the spirits and create an overall feeling of well-being. You will also be able to sample some local produce when you stop for a woodland picnic. Singin’ Hinnies and Stottie Cake await you! In November 2021 storm Arwen was described as a “once in a century weather event”. Some estimates say up to 11,000,000 trees were blown over . A number of footpaths on the route are still blocked by fallen trees and as a result I have relocated to a different section of Kyloe Wood. We will still be able to enjoy a picnic and walk quiet forest tracks and open moorland. You will see evidence of the power of Mother Nature and maybe catch a glimpse of a Red Squirrel.

What's included

I will provide a picnic with local speciality items for you to try including ‘singin’ hinny scones and Earl Grey tea (Lord Grey was from Northumberland). Let me know about dietary needs.

What I might need

Just bring suitable clothing and footwear for the weather conditions and extra water if it is a hot day.

About the host

I’ve welcomed visitors to England’s beautiful countryside for over thirty years and the history and scenery of Northumberland is some of the finest in the land. I enjoy walking lesser-known paths and making new discoveries about the heritage of the county. My walks are always friendly and informal and I love to share my interest in local history and the stories that shaped our nation. Supporting local food producers is important to me and you can sample some at the picnic.
