Experience Overview

Build your very own piece of Cotswolds history on this immersive dry-stone walling experience. Under David's expert guidance, you'll repair a real, traditional dry stone wall that's over 100 years old. What's more, the repairs you make will stay part of the Cotswold landscape for the next 100 years!

What you will do

After arriving and meeting at the Old Prison, David will guide you around to the dry-stone wall site. From there you'll get hands on with the stone, learning how to sort it, shape it and place the stone into the wall. Half way through the session we'll break for traditional English tea and rock cakes. During this time David will explain more about the fascinating history of dry-stone walling and the importance of this traditional skill in the Cotswolds landscape. Then it's back to the wall to build your own piece of history.

What's included

All tools and equipment are provided. You'll also be served traditional English tea and hand-made rock cakes. Toilet facilities are available at the meeting point.

What I might need

Sturdy footwear, waterproof jackets (and trousers if you have them), sunhat and suncream for hot weather days.

About the host

There's nowhere David prefers to be than out in the Cotswolds, getting his hands dirty with traditional rural skills. David has been delivering dry-stone walling training and experiences in the Cotswolds since 2010 and loves sharing that wealth of experience with others. He also runs his own traditional rural skills business, including hedgelaying, woodland coppicing and charcoal making.
